The Director of Marketing and Communications will manage, direct, assess, and champion the development and delivery of innovative, impactful, relevant, and high yield marketing and communications strategies and tactics to members and stakeholders of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and the greater occupational and environmental medicine (OEM) community. The position reports to the CEO and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Working in concert with colleagues and volunteer leaders, the ideal candidate will drive the brand, engagement, and usage of ACOEM products and services. The position is responsible for imagining the strategies and delivering the tactics that spur adoption, usage, and affinity to ACOEM and its portfolio of products and services.
Ownership, Oversight, and Delivery: This position will own, have oversight over, and be responsible for delivering the following:
ACOEM’s strategic marketing and communications plan and related deliverables
Organizational brand and creative and design elements of brand
All digital marketing assets and channels, including website, newsletter(s), social media, broadcast email and other applicable digital solutions
All print marketing assets and programs, including newsletter(s), event and membership promotions, advertising, public relations, annual reports, and ancillary publications
Responsibilities: Lead and direct the work of the Marketing & Communications department, setting priorities, defining goals and objectives, assigning responsibilities, approving work output, and improving processes when needed.
Create and execute an annual, comprehensive, multi-channel marketing plan that supports and aligns with organizational objectives.
Maintain overall marketing and communications calendars.
Oversee ACOEM website(s), social media presence, and digital and print communications, including content generation and delivery across owned and gained channels.
Develop and maintain organization’s public relations strategies.
Drive and manage ACOEM’s online reputation and search engine optimization.
Define marketing analytics and create dashboards and reports to measure all aspects of marketing campaigns.
Develop strategic and tactical marketing messages that impact key organizational metrics, including membership acquisition, member retention, event attendance, and vendor/exhibitor/sponsor engagement.
Support the on-going evolution and development of ACOEM’s brand.
Collaborate with staff in multiple departments to develop and implement communication strategies and shape messaging across programs and media to reach a variety of audiences.
Forecast and manage marketing & communication budgets.
Transition ACOEM’s current quarterly printed newsletter to a digital version.
Write or supervise content creation for ads, brochures, and other collateral materials (to include all event related material, membership collateral, etc.).
Oversee all creative design, production of marketing efforts (print, collateral, direct, digital, and web) from beginning to end.
Coordinate outside vendors; printers, designers and photographers as needed.
Manage internal approval processes of all advertising/marketing projects.
Coordinate media relations activities, including the creation and distribution of press releases, and coordination with media, media support vendors, and member or leader spokespersons.
Understand the membership, audiences, and users of ACOEM’s products and services and the Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) specialty and space and clearly communicate their needs and goals to the membership, news agencies and the general public.
Assist with the development of official position statements, correspondence and any other communique deemed appropriate and approved by the board of directors.
Work with colleagues to design, develop, and distribute relevant and timely surveys and other assessment protocols, reviewing results and making recommendations to leadership and staff.
Be an active participant and contributor to ACOEM’s Senior Staff Team.
Conduct ongoing and annual assessments of direct reports, appraising performance, mentoring, goal setting, training and leading.
Serve as the staff liaison to the Council on External Relations and Communications (CERC).

Skills/Qualifications:
Beyond a passion for marketing, communications, and associations in developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, preferably for healthcare-related not-for-profits (associations, societies, etc.), the position requires: 1. The ability to think strategically and deliver tactically 2. Excellent communications and writing skills with an emphasis on content generation 3. The ability to effectively lead team members to produce desired results while maintaining employee engagement and satisfaction 4. A broad and well-versed ability to impact a myriad of marketing assets and elements, including digital, social, print, blogs, websites, and email marketing, among others 5. An understanding of the association marketplace and the business operations and decision-making process of volunteer led organizations 6. The ability to identify, analyze, and evaluate situations or challenges and determine reasonable solutions.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a history of engaging in continuing education
Five (5) plus years of successfully developing, leading and delivering innovative marketing solutions that drive growth
Experience with associations, preferably professional associations in the medical and/or healthcare arena
Knowledge and working understanding of association platforms that typically drive engagement, e.g. email, social media, websites, design, etc. and commonly used platforms for the delivery of marketing & communications content
Functional understanding of Microsoft products, collaboration, and project management platforms and CRM/AMS platforms (database)
