The Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors, a professional trade association of 10,000+ members located in Cary, NC, is looking for an outgoing, motivated professional to serve in the role of Government Affairs Director.
Position Summary: Works closely with the CEO and volunteer leaders to achieve the Association’s goals and strategic plan initiatives surrounding public policy and political action. Monitors local, state and federal legislative and regulatory issues that relate to the association and recommends and coordinates the Association’s response. Serves as staff liaison for the Government Affairs Committee, and other committees/task forces as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves with the Community and Communications Team to collaboratively execute strategic goals and events.
Monitors legislative, regulatory, and program activities in all appropriate municipalities of Wake and Harnett Counties that affect the association, all its members, and the real estate industry, and keeps the CEO and Board informed.
Seeks to regularly schedule and coordinate meetings for staff and association leaders with elected and public officials on an ongoing basis.
Serves as staff liaison to the Governmental Policy and Issues Committee, RRAR Local Political Coordinator Program and other committees as requested. Works with the chair to set agendas, invite guest speakers, and educate the committee. Work with committee to identify issue priorities, action strategies, and develop minutes. Updates the committee on federal and state collaborative efforts.
Directly advocates with elected officials and agencies on issues related to real estate and property rights.
Actively monitors local initiatives and effectively utilizes national, state, and local resources to achieve the Association’s goals including preparing REALTOR Party grant applications in conjunction with planned Association activities.
Works closely with the Advocacy Specialist and the state association in fundraising efforts for the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and works with all staff and volunteer leaders and members to achieve established goals. Additionally, this role will represent the association at related events.
Coordinates member responses to local, state, and national legislative and regulatory actions.
Conducts annual candidate interviews for local elected office and assists the committees in preparing recommendations for candidate funding for the Board of Directors.
Prepares Board approved position papers and public policy documents for distribution to the public and elected officials.
Assists the Association officers, directors, and staff with issue and position information necessary for public speaking engagements, presentations, media interviews and articles for publication.
Travels to state and national Realtor® Association meetings, or partner association meetings to gather information, network with peers and keep the Association up-to-date on political issues, programs and opportunities.
Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in local or state government affairs or public policy. Bachelor's degree preferably in public policy, political science or related field.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Monday-Friday work week; 9am to 5pm workdays; occasional after hours work required.
Primarily work in temperature-controlled office environment, with some remote work flexibility.
Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
