American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) is seeking a results-driven individual with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills to join the AICR team as our Bequest and Planned Giving Specialist. AICR is a multi-national charity, based in Arlington, VA with affiliates in the UK and Holland. AICR funds cutting-edge research in the fields of nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention, treatment, and survival.
The Bequest and Planned Giving Specialist is responsible for leading and directing the planned giving fundraising program for AICR. This person is proactive, responsible, diligent and organized and has 5-7 years of planned giving and bequest experience and an exceptional record of meeting and exceeding fundraising goals. They will be an exceptional communicator and relationship builder with the creativity and skills to motivate and support a front-line fundraising team.
Serves as Bequest Administrator
Serves as primary liaison for the Bequest Promotion program, which includes but is not limited to:
Monitors data entry/fulfillment/TM processing of Bequest responses
Coordinates copy review/printing, monitors inventory and responses for the Newsletter and Bequest Booklet
Conducts Bequest Series copy approval with staff and legal partner
Assists in annual review of all Bequest procedures and letters
Serves as point of contact for bequest process questions with Supporter Services, IT and data entry
Assists in planning of Bequest Series selects/tests, works with IT to enter source codes in Bluebook and Bequest and Planned Giving databases, monitors results
Makes calls to attorneys and estate planners to cultivate relationships and get regular updates on outstanding bequests and planned gifts.
Responsible for successful administration of Gift Annuity Program, including oversight of required state filings and state regulations.
Processes and prepares acknowledgements for all endowment gifts.
Coordinates payments from all in-house managed Charitable Remainder Trusts providing oversight for preparation and filing of Trust Income Tax Returns.
Regularly cultivates a small portfolio of gift annuitants and planned giving donors.
Participates in the required training to learn and keep current with basic Planned Giving Techniques.
Develops and maintains donor and planner relationships, working directly with donors and planners on Gift Planning matters. Primary responsibility for review of the Estate Planner Newsletter and subsequent Gift Planning resource materials.
Maintain up-to-date donor records for all portfolio, bequest and estate planner donors.
Maintain Bequest Tracking Spreadsheet.
Work with SVP, Development and finance department at year end on accruals.
Provides staff services to any other projects as assigned.
Must have a minimum 5 years of planned giving and bequest experience
Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals
