Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children's lives and protecting people's health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 888 million children and the prevention of more than 15 million future deaths.
Under the oversight of the Managing Director for Resource Mobilisation, Private Sector Partnerships & Innovative Finance (RMPSPIF), the US Strategy team leads on (i) driving US Government and private sector fundraising and engagement, including through blended and innovative financial instruments and ambitious new partnerships; (ii) building visibility and trust with Gavi through smart donor relations and campaigning with civil society, policymakers and influential voices; and (iii) securing and cultivating support and funding for COVAX and COVAX AMC from a range of economies.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES
The Senior Donor Manager, US Strategy will be a critical liaison to the U.S. market, helping to ensure effective communication and engagement with U.S. Government officials and other key stakeholders. S/he will drive overall U.S. technical partnerships with the US and US actors by leading program and strategy discussions with officials, tracking and facilitating learning exchanges, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure implementation of key partnership goals, and anticipating potential issues and slowdowns and proactively proposing practical ways to address them. The Senior Donor Manager, U.S. Strategy will also represent Gavi’s learnings, evidence and perspectives in policymaking processes, especially around US discussions on global health security. This position will provide key updates and timely communications to other stakeholders about Gavi’s partnership with the U.S. Government and our global impact.
Donor Engagement and Grant Management
Create, maintain, and cultivate effective working relationships with government staff, political decisionmakers and other stakeholders including civil society partners, the private sector, and key influencers to educate them on Gavi, vaccines and immunisations, and any other issues of concern to the Vaccine Alliance.
Interact and collaborate with government counterparts, including conceiving of, staffing, and attending events, writing briefings, and hearings and preparation for market visits with Gavi Executives.
Manage, monitor and report on policy activities and key related policies developed by Gavi’s Board and Secretariat.
Continue to build on Gavi’s role as a respected voice on vaccinations, including on COVID-19.
Work closely with all relevant Gavi teams, particularly program and policy teams, to facilitate technical partnerships and advance Gavi’s policy objectives.
Initiate or project manage grant agreements, renewals and reporting with government agencies, foundations, high net worth individuals, and corporations, including ensuring comprehensive plans are in place.
Respond to donor requests in a timely manner and communicate issues to Gavi’s management and across the Gavi Secretariat.
Research and draft collateral materials, legislative analysis, position statements, talking points, letters, memos, speeches, and other materials necessary to accurately convey Gavi’s positions and recommendations.
Strategy building and implementation
Execute strategic assessments of issues and opportunities driving development and global health policies and agendas, including: identifying influential constituencies and institutions with whom Gavi and COVAX should promote increased funding and advocacy for immunisation; exploring opportunities for private sector partnerships with Gavi, and establishing private sector, civil society and influencers’ engagement strategies in cooperation with colleagues in the team and beyond.
Ensure appropriate level of engagement of Gavi’s CEO and Senior management with donor representatives.
Manage and build Gavi’s collaborative relationships with key government representatives and their staff as well as other stakeholders around policy and program objectives.
Donor Relations
Lead and coordinate response to donor requests in a timely manner and communicate issues to the Director, and across the Gavi Secretariat, as directed.
Teamwork
With other RMPSPIF Senior Donor Managers, contribute to team-wide tasks. Contribute to framing the work objectives of the team for internal and external audiences.
Carry out other projects assigned by the Head in accordance with the team objectives.

ACADEMIC
Master’s degree in relevant discipline (economics, finance, business, or international development).
Professional certification in innovation management, strategy development, and/or strategic communications as asset.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in building, cultivating, growing, and monitoring multi-stakeholder partnerships (including with the corporate sector, government departments, etc).
Familiarity with political and technical governmental decision-making complexities is necessary.
Good understanding of global health and development policy landscape and the government, private sector and civil society levers available to expand health access.
Established proficiency in managing multiple projects within a fast-moving environment is required.
Demonstrated success of engaging with and influencing senior level stakeholders is a must.
Ideal candidate has recognized experience both with public and non-governmental sectors, in global health programs, innovation and/or diplomacy, with a demonstratableexperience in influencing policy and shaping and implementing partnerships.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
Excellent analytical and synthesising capabilities.
Excellent communication skills and an outstanding command of written and spoken English (knowledge of other language would be an asset).
Entrepreneur spirit, problem-solving skills and result-orientation is a must.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and establish working relationships with multiple teams, leveraging programme/project management frameworks.
Ability to work independently, under pressure, demonstrating initiative, and flexibility.
Good understanding of Gavi and Gavi’s strategic objectives or capability and willingness to acquire this knowledge quickly.
LANGUAGES
Strong command of English with proven writing and editing skills.
