The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin is the leading professional trade organization for the residential home-building industry. The HBA represents more than 700 member companies and 1,500+ individual members. Position Summary The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin seeks a creative, organized, self-motivated individual who has demonstrated excellence in communications, design, and program marketing. The Director of Communications & Marketing will work cross-departmentally to enhance current communications and develop new marketing and communications systems with the goal to expand the impact and visibility of the organization. This includes integrating a broad range of marketing, advertising, communications, and publications through multiple media channels with an emphasis on producing and managing a digital media strategy and integrating an online member community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Implement marketing and communication initiatives that align with the HBA’s strategic plan which is to enhance the reputation of the industry while driving membership value through engagement.
Integrate internal and external marketing and communication efforts, maintaining a focus on campaigns and communications that directly grow HBAGA’s audience from membership, events, publications, and resources.
Responsible for ensuring consistency of approach and branding throughout all content.
Directs the development of creative and innovative approaches to member engagement campaigns.
Design and manage communication channels, including the content for the website, social media, program flyers, event signage, publications, and/or video production to improve the readership and viewership of all channels.
Develop and execute various elements as it relates to the Association's website, social media channels, email marketing, videos, etc. This will include content development, advertisements/sponsorship managing, editing, proofreading, layouts, printing, and mailing or electronic distribution.
Provide routine administration of the website.
As the gatekeeper, format and execute email marketing to membership, including, but not limited to weekly e-newsletters, event promotions, and marketing for educational programs. This may include event promotions and marketing for educational and informational programs.
Maintain regular social media presence including messaging, comment correspondence, sharing, and updating information to increase utilization and usefulness to members and the public.
Responsible for the design, editorial schedule, and layout for all HBA publications including the Advocacy Reports, Parade of Homes magazine, and the HBA regional magazine.
Integrate and manage the new online member community.
Facilitate and coordinate media requests on behalf of the association.
Prepares speeches, talking points, articles and presentations for the CEO and other Board Senior Officers.
Manage vendor relationships to derive the highest value while maintaining costs.
Attend and assist with association events, which range in attendance from 20 to 1,200 people (luncheons, galas, networking events, sporting events, area council meetings, etc.)
Works cross-departmentally with staff and collaboratively to serve the marketing needs of the organization.
Staff liaison for committees and councils as assigned by the CEO – includes scheduling meetings, coordinating with the member chairs, and documenting meetings through an agenda and minutes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Bachelor’s Degree (or at least 4 years of related work experience)
Superb organizational abilities and time management skills to consistently executed and meet deadlines.
Strong written, analytical, and oral communication skills, including the ability to distill complex issues into compelling communications.
Well-versed in the latest trends in multi-platform, cross-channel communication.
Experience managing a website and social media content, newsletters, and other digital communications strategies.
Proactively interprets relevant insights and/or data points and recommends pathways to improve marketing and communication efforts.
Self-starter with self-confidence.
Strong eye for detail in design and excellent proofing of content.
Effectively use Microsoft Office suite, specifically Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word.
Experience in Adobe Design Suite, Canva and/or other graphic design tools.
Ability to interact collaboratively with members and staff at all levels and represent the organization with a high degree of integrity, diplomacy, and professionalism.
Experience at a trade or professional association is preferred but not required.
Experience in using an Association Management System such as Atlas, MC Trade, or Weblink is preferred but not required.
Home building industry experience is not required.
Work Environment
Office hours are from 9 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday. The HBA office is in north-central Austin at 7800 Shoal Creek Blvd, Austin, Texas 78757.
The HBA hosts evening monthly evening events and 2-3 weekend events annually, which all staff are required to attend unless approved by the CEO. Note, some events are outdoors.
After the 90-day introduction period, Director-level employees are eligible to work remotely 2-3 days per week. When working remotely, staff must be in reasonable proximity to the HBA office.
