POSITION OBJECTIVE:
To conceptualize, develop and produce professional development programs for communications practitioners and related communications professionals through the management of the staff of the Professional Development Department. To establish annual budget and revenue targets in conformity with strategic goals to build, over time, a lifelong practitioner/career advancement experience.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Annual International Conference - Initiates the annual Call for Presentations process. Solicits, reviews and selects proposals for workshops in collaboration with appropriate staff and national committee members, and identifies additional topics and speakers to fulfill the final programming needs of the Conference.
- Determines and plans Pre-Conference seminars.
- Oversees Online Learning (LMS), workshops and virtual events.
- Oversees the breakout sessions and content and provides to marketing.
- Writes copy drafts when needed, builds the Conference programming, proofs all pieces, in conjunction with Marketing.
- Responsible for Accreditation.

New Product Development - Is responsible for new educational product creation, development and implementation in the fields of public relations and communications.
- Determines new conferences concepts, appropriate topics, best delivery method and most appropriate subject matter expert to deliver timely programming.
- Determine new online program concepts, appropriate topics, best delivery method and most appropriate subject matter expert to deliver timely programming.
- Identifies and solicits new subject matter experts.
- Works with Marketing to suggest marketing launch plan and delivery dates via product timeline.
- Explores new “off-the-shelf” products to enhance the range of programming delivery.
- Evaluates programming against strategic plan and goals.
- Undertakes continuous monitoring and evaluation of programming, using surveys, attendee feedback, number of attendees, dollars generated to ensure current program offerings are meeting member needs and budget goals.
- Develops, monitors and adjusts annual departmental budget to support strategic goals.
- Promotion of the LMS.
- Understanding and development of products within SCORM and maintaining an elevated user experience.
- Has an understanding of adult learning theories and best practices.
Webinars - Develops webinar programming and schedule.
- Engages with all speakers, orienting them to webinar platform and needed materials.
- Works with outside vendors on registration issues (Palisades, Onstream and Malone Media) and various marketing issues.
- Works with internal departments for incorporating new speakers.
- Works with internal boards (Universal Accreditation Board, Board of Ethics and Professional Standards, PD Committee, various Professional Interest Sections leadership) to develop timely webcasts to meet specific member needs.

Marketing - Suggests unique selling propositions for overall programming promotions including identification of key features and speakers for events.
- Develops copy draft of monthly Professional Development Strategies &Tactics insert.
- Provides prompting when additional efforts are needed.
- Works to determine production schedule.
- Provides guidance and proofs graphics.
- Works with membership to develop special offerings or product packages to increase value.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: 8 to 10 years of program management experience, association experience preferred. Industry knowledge of direct mail, internet marketing and program delivery systems are important.
Related Skills: This position requires strong interpersonal team building skills and the ability to build long-term trust relationships with volunteers and key leaders.
Negotiating skills are essential in soliciting and developing new programming.
An understanding of volunteerism and how to work with, motivate and reward volunteers are also very important.
Writing, proofreading and editing skills are essential. Creativity for program development and marketing programs is needed.
Computer literacy is essential — Word and Microsoft Office, some Excel and PowerPoint are needed. Working knowledge of audio-visual equipment and interfacing computers to this equipment is recommended.
Other Requirements: Some overnight travel required as well as weekend hours for meetings on occasion.
