Associate Director, Corporate Relations
Whether it is measuring cholesterol levels to determine a patient’s risk for cardiovascular disease or using a strand of hair to determine drug use or saliva to detect HIV, laboratory science is there as a partner to patients and clinicians in improving their health and healthcare. The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) is a global scientific and medical professional organization dedicated to clinical laboratory science and its application to healthcare. As the Associate Director, Corporate Relations, you will oversee the relationship management and stewardship of corporate partners and sponsors to drive year-round engagement with AACC. Reporting to and in partnership with the Senior Director, Corporate Relations, you will create customized educational sponsorship opportunities designed to deliver a significant return on investment while simultaneously staying in touch with current corporate customers and forging fresh connections with new ones. As laboratory medicine evolves, and as the world continues to adjust to the disruptions caused by the pandemic, AACC’s goal is to keep the community connected by creating opportunities to exchange and share information.
In this role, success is not defined by an arbitrary number of calls or emails; we define success as building lasting partnerships. Currently, we have 750+ corporate sponsors ranging from $10K to $900K. As the Associate Director of Corporate Relations, you will maintain relationships with current corporate partnership and cultivate relationships with prospective supporters while working with partners to identify ways AACC can serve them year-round. You will spend time researching and prospecting partnerships with companies that may be new to AACC. Your goal is to learn about the innovations and advancements our corporate partners are making, listen to understand their goals and their target audiences, and collaborate in identifying the best opportunities to meet their needs, ultimately increasing revenue for AACC. Additionally, you will collaborate with AACC’s external sales partners - cross-collaboration is essential to our success so that we, as a team, add value and support our corporate partners in attaining their goals. For corporate partners interested in our educational sponsorship opportunities, you will work with them to design a targeted opportunity that delivers a powerful return on their investment. Sponsors know they will reach influencers and decision-makers in hospitals, labs, and clinics when they partner with us.
Responsibilities
Fund development – sponsorships, partnerships, & fundraising
- Secure funding from corporate supporters for current and prospective AACC programs.
- Cultivate and sustain current and prospective corporate relationships through appropriate communications and sales channels including face-to-face communications (at business events, corporate sites), solicitation campaigns, email, social media, and group communications (e.g., corporate newsletter, group emails).
- Assess market opportunities for new sponsorship prospects, new sponsor opportunities, market needs, and other trends in corporate development.
- Screen potential business deals and grant opportunities by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, and fulfillment components; evaluate options and resolve internal priorities.
- Cultivate and maintain ongoing relationships with corporate contacts at current and prospective organizations.
- Develop proposals and prepare sales presentations. Track proposals and reports for all corporate sponsors.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth in both the current year as well as future years.
- Close new business deals; coordinate requirements; develop and negotiate contracts; integrate contract requirements with business operations; ensure fulfillment /compliance of contract requirements.
Corporate programs & relationship management
- Develop and manage corporate leads for a variety of AACC programs to attract sponsors and other potential corporate supporters; this includes maintaining appropriate prospect and customer electronic records, contact management records, and transactional histories.
- Research and identify new corporate prospects; create and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies including travel to industry events and individual corporations as needed.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in corporate relations/sales, business development, or sponsorship sales, preferably in a healthcare or scientific setting, or nonprofit association.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or other related discipline preferred.
- Understanding of the unique value proposition associated with sponsorships and proven results in achieving financial and other performance targets.
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10 percent.
- Established knowledge and proficiency in fundraising within the regulatory confines of the Physician Payment Sunshine Act and its scope.
