The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), the premier professional association for rehabilitation physicians, also known as physiatrists, is seeking an Education Manger to oversee the planning and implementation of AAPM&R’s Annual Assembly and other standalone education activities.
We are working remotely with plans to return to the office with hybrid schedule. Must have access to the Rosemont, IL office.
AAPMR instituted a Covid 19 vaccine mandate for all employees. It is required as a condition of employment.
AAPM&R serves more than 9,000 board certified physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). PM&R physicians are nerve, muscle, bone, and brain experts who treat injury or illness non-surgically to decrease pain and restore function. AAPM&R is a leader in helping PM&R physicians acquire the continuing education, practice, knowledge, leadership skills and research findings needed to provide quality patient care.
Working with the Director of Education, this position oversees the development of AAPM&R’s Annual Assembly and additional virtual and/or in-person educational activities as assigned. The ideal candidate will positively and collaboratively contribute to the overall functions and processes of the Academy’s education team, have experience effectively working with volunteers and committee management, and support the Academy’s overall strategic goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the planning and implementation of the Academy’s Annual Meeting, overseeing content and faculty management for both in-person and virtual components. This includes overseeing the call for session proposals and research abstracts process, training volunteers and staff on how to use the submission technology, faculty and speaker recruitment and management, sending reminders about deadlines, managing the CME and evaluation processes, working with the Corporate Relations department to secure equipment for hands-on sessions, working with the Marketing and Communications department to develop promotional materials, and overseeing all other essential functions need to plan and implement AA.
Serve as primary staff liaison to the Program Planning Committee, the Evidence Committee, and other subject matter expert work groups as needed. Includes planning face-to-face meetings and several conference calls throughout the year; develops agendas and meeting materials with directional input from supervisor.
Mange the planning and implementation of additional virtual and/or in-person educational activities as assigned, which includes working with physician volunteers to develop content, faculty and speaker recruitment, overseeing the registration processes, working with the meetings team on logistics as needed, uploading activities into the Academy’s online Learning Portal, managing the CME and evaluation processes, working with the Marketing and Communications department to develop promotional materials, and overseeing all other essential functions needed to offer these activities.
Conduct post activity data reporting, which includes analyzing faculty demographics to ensure Diversity & Inclusion principles are being followed, understanding participants trends, and measuring any other metrics that can be used to improve future activities.
Actively explore and identify educational learning trends, learning technology and other resources available to improve instructional design and delivery of educational content.
Ensure all educational activities are in compliance with ACCME accreditation requirements and Academy processes and policies. This includes ensuring proper documentation is collected during activity development and supporting the overall educational evaluation summary process.
Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Education or Associate Executive Director, Education.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Genuine interest and passion for educational content design and delivery.
Familiarity with planning virtual and in-person educational activities, and interest in supporting in-person, virtual and hybrid events. Ability to learn and leverage existing and new technologies and platforms to enhance and manage live educational activities that bring together virtual and in-person participants.
Comfort with collaborative team approach within department and across organization.
Ability to manage several projects at once, while staying organized, and being able to respond in a timely manner to multiple incoming priorities and requests without getting overwhelmed. Comfortable with independent and group work. Works efficiently, collaboratively with a cooperative spirit.
Interest in exploring, embracing and proposing new opportunities, innovations and technologies in an evolving environment.
Possesses strong project management skills; demonstrated ability to develop and implement work plans associated with educational content. Works with staff, physician volunteers and third-party vendors to produce content on time and within budget.

Confident using good judgment to make solid recommendations. Identifies opportunities to streamline processes and makes recommendations for overall improvements.
Strong customer-service focus; understands member-based organizations and the unique and ever-changing balance that must be struck between rules and exceptions.
Courteous and professional demeanor with strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable interacting with physician volunteers.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Knowledge of or ability to learn key organizational systems that include iMIS (AMS), Cadmium (faculty management system), and Oasis (LMS).
Working knowledge of ACCME Criteria and policies and AMA policies related to continuing medical education, a plus.
Maintains high professional standards of integrity, ethics, and commitment to the goals of AAPM&R.
