Organization: Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)
Position: Executive Director
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer, APIC
The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC), located in Milwaukee, WI, provides direction for and administers the certification process for professionals in infection control and applied epidemiology. CBIC is seeking an Executive Director to lead the effective implementation of the CBIC mission and vision, including the strategic development of pathways to verify infection prevention competency. Remote workers permitted outside the DC Metro area; expanded telework options available for workers within the DC Metro area.
As the Executive Director, you will plan, organize, coordinate, direct, approve, and communicate internal operating policies as well as oversee staff, programs, and activities. You will work closely with the elected president and other members of the CBIC Board of Directors to ensure that the strategic plan is implemented and that annual goals are met. The Executive Director actively supports the values and goals of CBIC as defined by the CBIC Board of Directors and oversees operational activities with a fiduciary responsibility of a budget of over $3 million. This role may report to the President of the Board for matters where accreditation integrity is needed.
The Executive Director is a hands-on position, providing direct management and implementation of client projects, programs, and activities that further the CBIC mission and vision. This position serves as the liaison with various CBIC committees, including chairs of each test committee, and oversees all certification and recertification programs. Additionally, the Executive Director will work directly with the testing company to ensure the exams are administered per NCCA guidelines. The specific responsibilities of this role fall into the following six major categories: Strategy Development and Execution; Promotion of Highly Visible and Valued Credentials and Relationship Building; Governance; Management Oversight; Program Oversight; and Financial Planning and Reporting.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (an advanced degree is strongly preferred) plus a minimum of ten years of broad-based executive management experience, including serving as a non-profit chief executive, chief operating officer, or the equivalent, preferably from a credentialing organization. This position requires knowledge of credentialing, not-for-profit business, and financial management along with a demonstrated track record of building an organization at the national, international, or regional level. CBIC is seeking individuals with experience with measurable results in hiring, supervising, developing, leading, and retaining staff and in engaging and supporting volunteers as well as experience in growth and change management. Certified Association Executive (CAE) is preferred; required within two years of employment.

CBIC is independent and separate from any other infection control-related organization or association, but does collaborate with three partner organizations (APIC, IPAC, and IFIC) to help promote the importance of being certified in infection prevention and control (CIC®).
