The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the national professional association established in 1917 to represent the interests and concerns of occupational therapy practitioners and students of occupational therapy, is seeking an Editor, OT Practice to add to their team.
To manage and develop the scope and standard of editorial material appearing in OT Practice, both in print and online, focusing on adding value to the AOTA membership by providing readers with information that helps them to succeed professionally and reflects AOTA’s strategic goals, operational plan priorities, and overarching content strategy.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
Lead the digital transformation of OT Practice magazine from print first to include a robust online presence. Develop strategies for types of content posted online, and post articles and other online content on website. Ensure e-publishing platform optimizes visibility and engagement and supports a digital-first approach. Coordinate with Marketing and Creative Services department on e-mail promotions of OT Practice.
Solicit authors for features and departments, provide substantive edits and proofreading, track through review process using the tracking sheet, and manage the copyedit process to ensure quality and accuracy.
Ensure that each issue of OT Practice remains on schedule and within budget. Work with production manager and printer to create annual budget, and track budget items throughout the year. Ensure that all copyright forms are received. File copyright registration every quarter. Create the yearly OT Practice editorial calendar, ensuring that the practice areas and issues reflect AOTA’s strategic goals, operational plan priorities, overarching content strategy, and member interests.
Write monthly introductory letter from the Executive Director and Updates for each issue. Write other content, as necessary.
Coordinate with Marketing department to promote books, continuing education, and other AOTA content in connection with related articles in OT Practice.
Regularly report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
Ensure that Updates reflect news items submitted to the News email account.
Create the annual index of articles and move pdfs of past issues to the CommunOT archive at the end of each year.
Copyedit various articles/documents/sales ads as needed, including special OT Practice sections such as annual Buyer’s Guide and CE Directory, Annual Conference Exhibitor Pocket Guide, and other AOTA content.
Model the AOTA culture values throughout the workplace and employ them in all interactions with peers, managers, volunteers, members, and other stakeholders.
Engage innovative and creative solutions to problem solving and designing business solutions that advance the goals assigned to your role.
Exhibit an understanding of the needs and expectations of AOTA members, peers, and managers and strive to cultivate trust and respect with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Bachelor's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 6-10 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Association Management experience a plus.,.
Professional certification and/or American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential is a plus.
Strong project management skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively by building relationships across all departments and levels and members.
Must demonstrate good judgement and mature business skills, a high level of organizational and time management skills, and flexibility in competently juggling competing priorities and changing expectations.
