ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, is looking for an experienced and mature individual with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, preferably in an association environment, to conduct research and data analysis for internal surveys, evaluations and other non-clinical studies sponsored by ASTRO.
The Strategic Research Analyst will use data to tell a story and help explain the dynamics behind what is driving or shaping the facts and trends in the radiation oncology space. Working with stakeholders, this individual is responsible for annual Membership Surveys, evaluations of programs, a financial survey, and surveys on other topics of interest. They can translate complex or technical analysis to be understood by a larger audience and provides assessments internally for what these factors could mean for the radiation oncology field and for ASTRO. The individual is also part of cross-functional team that produces Business Intelligence reports on Microsoft Power BI.
NOTE: The position is DC area-based. Until Labor Day, ASTRO’s offices are open at 50% capacity (teleworking up to 3x per week). After Labor Day, our offices will fully re-open at 100% capacity. All staff will be expected to return to the offices on a full-time basis, with the opportunity to telework up to 2x/week after 6 months of employment.
Major responsibilities will include:
Design Surveys, Manage and Analyze Data. Facilitate questionnaire design, survey structure and tabulation specifications of association-sponsored research. Collect, manage, analyze and interpret primary data using quantitative methods.
Member Surveys. Drive the necessary research to assess member engagement and satisfaction, including supporting the annual member survey, as well as other, more targeted efforts to assess satisfaction; collaborate with internal business intelligence analyst to contribute knowledge and meaning on business intelligence reports.
Financial Surveys. Conducts a comprehensive financial survey every other year and produces report; works with stakeholders to evaluate and update the questionnaire.
Education Surveys. Assist the Education division in the development, deployment and collection of survey data to satisfy CME requirements.
Communicate Results and Provide Insight. Prepare reports and presentations of data findings for internal and external parties; convene and lead meetings to discuss findings and help identify opportunities. Provide insight and input into organization-wide projects supporting the strategic goals of each department and important Society programs.
Develop and maintain current benchmarking statistics on radiation oncology/cancer topics and trends.
Best Practices. Maintain working knowledge of current best practices for data collection, management, analysis and visualization, including organization-wide data warehousing techniques.
Research / Evaluation Culture. Promote a research and evaluation culture within the organization and serve as a resource for staff and members.
Qualified Candidates will have:
A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of experience conducting and reporting research.
Previous experience working in an association management organization, nonprofit organization or similar research/health care setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Superior ability to gather and synthesize primary and secondary data and information.
Working knowledge and experience with survey programming software (e.g., Qualtrics).
Working knowledge and experience with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS).
Familiarity with a wide-range of basic and higher order quantitative statistical methods.
Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff as well as external parties such as vendors and members.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to use sound judgment in decision making are required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines.
Must be a team player, proactive and professional.
Must be proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint. Familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI. Knowledge and experience with Web research resources (Google, PubMed, etc.) is preferred.
General office. Minimum travel required approximately 10% of the time.
