Founded in 1950, SOPHE comprises some 4,000 behavioral scientists, university faculty, and health education practitioners working in state/local public health, community-based organizations, K-12 schools, health care settings, and businesses in the United States and 25 international countries. SOPHE members work at the intersection psychology/social sciences, health education, health promotion, and health communications to prevent, promote and protect the public’s health, especially underserved populations. Our 20+ state/regional chapters provide training and outreach at the local levels, including community-based organizations, clinics, schools and health departments. SOPHE is a dynamic and growing organization that publishes 3 peer-reviewed journals, conducts professional development meetings and distance education, advocates for health equity, and has established partnerships with both public and non-profit organizations.
