The Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB) is searching for their next Executive Director. The Executive Director serves as chief executive with overall responsibility for SIMB operations, including administration and financial management of office operations, budget development for office operations, meetings (currently virtual), trade shows, workshops, information technology, contractors and publications. Participates in formulation of policy and services as an ex officio member of the Board of Directors. Financial management includes responsibility for adhering to budget, participating in the annual audit, contracting for hotels, vendors, contractors and publications and board of directors/committees. Key Responsibilities - Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates Society programs and activities with SIMB staff,
- Maintains effective relationships with board of directors, individual and corporate members, and other stakeholders.
- Maintains effective relationships with related societies and organizations.
- In conjunction with the strategic plan, develop policies for growth as specified by the constitution and bylaws.
Duties and Responsibilities Within the limits of the bylaws, policies and strategic plan, the Executive Director will: - Develop annual Society operating budget and ensure that all monies and physical assets are appropriately administered and safeguarded.
- Negotiate and sign all contracts, including hotel and vendor services contracts for all SIMB meetings, in the future, agreements with other organizations, contracts for office services and publishing contract for peer-reviewed journal.
- In conjunction with the strategic plan, formulate and recommend for approval by the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors policies, procedures and programs that will further SIMB objectives.
- Serve as ex-officio member of the Finance Committee and Board of Directors; execute decisions of the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. Attend all meetings of the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. Collaborate with the elected President and Treasurer to prepare agendas of the Finance Committee and Board of Directors meetings and assist in developing strategy and priorities.
- Plan for and participate in, with staff accountant, the annual audit.
- Maintain investment strategies as developed by Treasurer and Audit and Investment Advisory Committee.
- Maintain a sound organizational structure for the headquarters office to enable fulfillment of all Society functions and responsibilities.
- Coordinate all projects and major activities of the headquarters staff. Provide the necessary liaison and staff support to volunteer committee chairs and committees.
- Promote interest in SIMB activities through SIMB communications media.
- Engage in fundraising on behalf of SIMB meetings and activities.
- Plan and execute the SIMB Annual Meeting as well as special conferences and workshops which occur throughout the year, utilizing volunteer program committees to develop scientific conference programming. Exercise control of conference/workshop budgets and all arrangements in an effort to meet financial objectives.
- Maintain, with the Secretary and Treasurer, official minutes of the Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and other official meetings of the organization; provide security for all files, legal and historic documents, membership and mailing lists.
