WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
The Chief Executive Officer, under the direction of the Board of Trustees, provides leadership, development of strategies, organizational and financial oversight, and supervises all programs, projects, and administrative activities of NACUFS. Working with paid staff and numerous volunteers, the Chief Executive Officer also provides administrative support, guidance, and ongoing communication to members of NACUFS Board of Trustees, association, committees, and staff.
This position is based full-time in historic East Lansing, Michigan. The position requires significant travel (30%) as it is expected to meet with members, attend industry conferences, chapter meetings, or other events as deemed appropriate and valuable to NACUFS.
The successful candidate will:
Be an adaptive and innovative leader, with a minimum of 7 years demonstrated executive leadership experience at a national or global nonprofit association. Additionally, hospitality and food service experience would be a huge plus.
Possess a demonstrated track record of success and proven management and financial business acumen within an organization of similar or larger scale and complexity.
Present effectively and has the ability to engage various audiences.
Hold a bachelor’s degree in business or other pertinent degrees; however, a master’s degree is strongly preferred in business, communication, hospitality management or related field.
Acquired a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation or will become certified within 5 years of hire date.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE?
Provides information, advice and counsel to the President and Board of Trustees with regard to the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, programs, and goals.
Assists the Board of Trustees with the strategic planning process and
Prepares annual and interim reports for board meetings to update members on NACUFS' operational status and progress on goal
Assists the President and President-Elect with the planning and setting of the agenda for all Board of Trustee
Participates in all board meetings and the executive committee meetings and is responsible for the preparation and distribution of the meeting
Assist and advice the NACUFS Foundation, Inc. Board with the administration of the NACUFS Foundation.
Provide leadership to ensure the fiscal integrity and sound management of all projects for NACUFS.
Develops the annual budget with the treasurer and finance committee in order to carry out the Association's strategic plan.
Schedules an annual audit of the association to ensure compliance.
Works with volunteers and staff to solicit, coordinate and prioritize new and/or additional sponsorship for the national conference and educational
Promotes an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork, and a common organizational
Implement and execute personnel changes, including oversight of hiring, supervision, and performance management activities.
Assigns the necessary staff liaison to committees and project teams.
Negotiates, reviews, and executes all contracts and contractual agreements on behalf of NACUFS as authorized by the Board of Trustees.
Ensures the development of specific procedures and activities to implement the policies and programs authorized by the Board of Trustees.
Periodically reviews the policies and procedures to ensure they are in compliance with the Association bylaws and other legal requirements.
Promotes interest and active participation in NACUFS activities.
Develops and implements methods to recruit and retain Association members.
Answers membership questions and concerns.
Represents the Association with external groups and at related meetings or conferences.
Develops and maintains relationships with other associations, higher education community, public service organizations, vendors, media, and others as necessary in order to further the interests of NACUFS and the collegiate foodservice industry.
Researches and evaluates all vendor services to determine programs and providers that best meet the needs of NACUFS and then makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees as appropriate.
