The American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) Government Affairs Department operates at the federal, state and local levels across the country. The incumbent assists the General Counsel & Senior Vice President, Government Affairs in managing and directing the outside legislative and certain shared regulatory interests of the Institute. This will include the development and implementation of ACI legislative and regulatory policy with respect to federal, state, and local issues, laws and standards to further Institute interests.
The incumbent will have issue responsibility for policy oversight with respect to legislative and certain regulatory interactions and non-scientific external communications. Interaction with external stakeholders as well as ACI members is a critical function of the position. The Director will independently, in consultation with, or at the direction of the General Counsel & Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, work to further ACI programs aligned with ACI strategic goals and related priorities including the Government Affairs Committee and the ACI Political Action Committee (ACI PAC).
Assist in the development and execution of ACI’s long-term policy and advocacy strategy.
Monitor, track and advise the ACI team and membership on federal and state legislative and priority regulatory introductions in consultation with the Manager, Government Affairs.
Conduct and develop research and analysis including necessary and appropriate documents including but not limited to: legislative or regulatory memoranda, testimony, external and internal correspondence and articles.
Monitor public hearings and other legislative and regulatory events related to the Institute’s agenda as appropriate.
Assist in the representation of ACI before legislative and regulatory bodies as needed and appropriate to accomplish advocacy objectives.
Lead specific government affairs priority issues as assigned or directed including state and federal-focused topical antimicrobial and ingredient communication advocacy.
Represent ACI at meetings, hearings and conferences on issues of interest.
Participate in inter-industry coalitions on issues as appropriate or directed.
Respond or assist in providing responses to member inquiries on legislative, policy and general matters.
In coordination with and at the direction of the General Counsel & Senior Vice President, Government Affairs manage and oversee the day-to-day operation and public facing work of the ACI Political Action Committee (ACI PAC).

Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of six (6) years’ experience in government relations in a legislative environment.
Must possess strong knowledge of ACI policy issues and strong familiarity with legislative and regulatory functions, processes and procedures.
Must have working familiarity with political action committee (PAC) functions.
Possess strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal engagement skills in order to develop and nurture key stakeholder relationships in the interest of the Institute.
Ability to read, interpret, analyze and write legislative language.
Ability to organize and manage projects from inception to completion.
Ability to plan and effectively respond to changing circumstances and issues.
