With its headquarters located in Charleston, the West Virginia Hospital Association (WVHA) and its members are seeking a leader with proven communication, leadership and relationship skills to serve as its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  WVHA is the recognized voice for the interests of its 61-member hospitals and health systems in the areas of advocacy and representation at the state and federal levels; hospital financial payment and reimbursement expertise; member-driven quality and data programs; and an on-going communications strategy promoting West Virginia’s hospitals.

WVHA also operates West Virginia Health Services (WVHS), a for-profit subsidiary offering shared services programs providing value-added strategies to its members, and the Healthcare Education Foundation of West Virginia (HEF), a 501 (c)(3) Foundation focused on member education, management of state and federal grants for critical access hospitals, and a hospital emergency preparedness program. 

The President & CEO provides leadership and oversight of the WVHA team over these areas and is the spokesperson on behalf of the member hospitals and health systems.  WVHA’s next leader will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of the state and federal legislative process, and actively lobby at the state legislature to promote the Association’s annual legislative agenda, while being attuned to the members in terms of their advocacy issues and priorities.  Coupled with these responsibilities is a need to ensure that WVHA maintains its leadership role in the state, as well as its position as the “educational” resource for the legislature, regulatory bodies, members and other organizations related to evolving hospital and health system issues during this time of change.  This is a highly visible leadership role that provides a results-driven leader the ability to impact the landscape of healthcare in West Virginia for years to come.

The President & CEO will also be expected to lead the membership through discussions of how healthcare delivery is changing from the national level to needs of the patient. With the support of a strong executive team, the next President & CEO will be instrumental in guiding WVHA and its members through a time of rapid transitions in care delivery, population health and healthcare cost control.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will work closely with the Board, member organizations, and the WVHA team to further implement the strategic plan consistent with the Association’s vision, mission and values. 

The President & CEO must also have a track record of leading and developing high-performing teams; delivering results in the advocacy arena; having exceptional relationships and coalition-building skills; and serving as a spokesperson on issues of critical importance. He/she will be a champion for the state’s hospitals and health systems and continue to build upon WVHA’s reputation of achieving optimal outcomes for its members.
