Development and Foundation, Education and Training
The American Association of Immunologists (AAI), a non-profit professional biomedical research association, seeks a motivated and creative individual with experience or interest in managing and developing career advancement and educational programs. Strong writing, editorial, and organizational skills are necessary to be successful in this position. This position supports the Director of Educational and Career Development, Executive Director, and other senior staff in the development and management of existing programs and new initiatives including but not limited to career awards, fellowships, travel grants, courses, STEM activities, national and international professional outreach, and promotion of AAI members, AAI, and immunology in general, in AAI information outlets/publications and social media.
The Manager will be responsible for the successful execution of the AAI Careers in Immunology Fellowships, AAI Fellowships for Career Reentry, and AAI Intersect Fellowships for Computational Scientists and Immunologists, including all aspects of the awards process from budget development to award conferral, and will support other AAI awards activities as needed. This individual will also support various AAI career and educational programs, including the Introductory and Advanced Courses in Immunology, the High School Teachers Summer Research Program in Immunology, and career development sessions and services at the AAI annual meeting. Manager will research and help develop new courses and/or career programs. Responsibilities will further include writing articles for the AAI Newsletter to inform about AAI career development programs or topical career issues, communication with other professional societies to remain apprised of opportunities of interest to AAI, and comprehensive development of new awards and career development programs.
Candidates must have good organizational skills and proven ability to independently manage time sensitive programs. Must be outgoing and possess strong communications skills. Candidates should have strong writing skills; previous publications and writing samples (scientific and nonscientific) required. Previous management experience in professional career development programs a plus. Travel required for annual meeting, courses, and outreach.
Candidates must have a PhD in immunology and 3 years of postdoctoral experience. May have a degree in a related scientific discipline if some coursework and/or training in immunology. A computational science background or experience a plus, but not required.
