The Center for Public Health Policy at the American Public Health Association (APHA) highlights the connections between communities — where we live, work, play and learn — and our collective health. The Center advances evidence-based policies and practices to address the social determinants of health and create health equity for all; and serves as a catalyst for positive change by influencing public policy at all levels of government and within the private sector. The Public Health Policy Fellow provides support to the Center for Public Health Policy across content areas including access to care, health equity, and environmental health. The fellow conducts research and analysis to develop resources such as factsheets and issue briefs. The fellow works sub-contractors and consultants to fulfill grant deliverables. The fellow reports to the Director of the Center for Public Health Policy and works closely with other members of the Center, the Center for School-Health and Education as well as other APHA units. Perform other duties as assigned.
This is a full time (35 hours per week) position. It is a temporary, grant-funded position that is guaranteed through July 31, 2020.
Bachelor’s degree.At least two years of work experience in public health. At least two years of experience providing programmatic and/or administrative support. Working knowledge of social determinants of health. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience translating technical information into accessible language and writing for different audiences. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time. The ability to interface with a diverse team of staff, consultants and organizational partners. Must be able to travel if required for projects.
Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations.
Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Mon- Fri. (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
