Under the broad direction of the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) Board of Directors (BOD) and within the Bylaws and Policies, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the operations and administration of NCBTMB directly or by appropriate delegation. Collaborate with the BOD to develop and recommend short-and long-range objectives, policies, budgets and operating plans for NCBTMB. Oversees the execution, implementation and administration of policies, programs and establishes, recommends, and implements the organizational structure, policies and staffing. Serves as a representative to the financial community, members, the industry, representatives of government and regulatory agencies, and the general public. Participates on the BOD and assigned Committees as a non-voting member.
Assists the BOD and assigned committees in the execution of their duties as a non-voting member;
Takes part in developing and delineating the vision and strategy for the organization;
Participates in setting policies, standards and operating philosophies for the organization;
Facilitates the short and long-range planning process;
Supports the preparation of the agenda, pre-meeting communications materials, and minutes for Board meetings as required;
Maintains and ensures the security of all official documents of the organization including all files, minutes, legal, historical, and operating documents;
Reports overall results including membership, financial, and other business metrics to the Board and relevant committees;
Recommends new systems and programs where appropriate;
Keeps the Board members apprised of current trends, Board responsibilities, legal requirements, and status of NCBTMB;
Serves as the official secretary/treasurer role for the organization,
Ensures that volunteer roles and responsibilities are clearly understood;
Formulates, secures approvals, and implements operational and administrative goals, plans, policies and procedures necessary to execute the NCBTMB policies and mission as assigned by the Board of Directors;
Provides leadership, strategic direction, develops the infrastructure, and oversees NCBTMB operations and staff functions;
Responsible, through subordinate managers, for ensuring effective and efficient delivery of products and services provided to certificants, providers and schools, including but not limited to customer services, marketing, communications, education, school relations;
Responsible for assuring the implementation of Board decisions and driving process change throughout the organization;
Manages employees. Interviews, hires, orients, and trains staff members. Assigns duties and responsibilities, coaches, evaluates performance, provides feedback and takes corrective action as needed. Ensures appropriate employee policies, programs and resources are in place to attract, retain, motivate and develop the employees needed to fulfill the NCBTMB mission including a competitive salary structure and clearly defined duties and authority. Resolves employee relations issues and problems;
Oversees the development of, approval of and management of an annual budget for NCBTMB operations. Ensures the proper expenditure of all funds and that all funds, physical assets, and other properties of NCBTMB are appropriately safeguarded and executed;
Analyzes NCBTMB operations for opportunities to gain organizational efficiencies and increase effectiveness by adapting appropriate business methodologies. Designs and implements new and/or modified systems and processes consistent with NCBTMB needs;
Ensures that NCBMTB programs comply with all applicable legal and fiduciary requirements, including adherence to the governing rules surrounding accreditation of certification bodies.
Represents the NCBTMB to certificants, providers, schools and outside organizations, associations, industry, government, public service, vendors, service organizations, and others as needed to effectively implement the mission of the organization;
Formulates business plans to direct and drive the marketing and growth of the NCBTMB programs. Responsible for the overall marketing efforts of the NCBTMB.
Represents the organization to external contacts such as governmental and regulatory agencies.
Responsible for ensuring positive certificant, provider and school relations through the effective implementation of appropriate customer service, volunteer relations, communications and publications, education, conference, and other organizational functions.
Maintains current knowledge of business operations and management techniques, particularly as they apply to not-for-profit organizations. Keeps abreast of new developments and emerging technologies in the massage therapy discipline. Recommends new systems and programs where appropriate.
Models the leadership behaviors expected of the chief executive officer with NCBTMB. Fosters open communication, collaboration, and teamwork. Fosters and nurtures partnerships among staff, the Board of Directors, volunteers, certificants, providers and schools.
Fosters an environment where the BOD and the American Massage Therapy Association Board of Directors(AMTA BOD) can identify opportunities to work together, uphold their joint agreement, and, generally, maintain a mutually beneficial relationship.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Work requires the knowledge of business, and general management equivalent to that normally acquired with the completion of a Master’s degree in Business Administration or related discipline.
Work requires an advanced level of knowledge of business and not-for-profit management functions as would be acquired through a minimum of ten years of related work experience.
Highly developed leadership skills, including significant prior experience managing multifunctional staffs and projects effectively. Ability to provide vision and strategy, and drive process change throughout the organization.
Advanced analytical skills to develop organization strategic plans, business development plans and key success metrics. Ability to convert abstract strategies into operational and/or administrative objectives.
Advanced decision-making and problem-solving skills to solve highly complex administrative and/or managerial issues, and develop original solutions in situations with little or no precedent or established guidelines.
Highly developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills for presentations to the Board of Directors, government representatives, NCBTMB certificants, providers, schools, employees, accrediting bodies, industry and other external organizations, and preparation and presentation of plans and reports.
Highly developed interpersonal skills to interact, negotiate with, and persuade others, and build strategic alliances in sensitive situations. In addition to regular high-level contacts with the Board and volunteers, a significant amount of contact is with high-ranking officials from outside the NCBTMB in potentially unstructured settings.
Work is generally performed in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to unpleasant working conditions or hazards.
This job is sedentary in nature, i.e., the employee must exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Approximately 60% of time is spent looking at a computer terminal.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and operate a computer including performing actions with repetitive motions.
Ability to travel as necessary is required.
