WHAT ARE WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
The Executive Director, under the direction of the Board of Directors, provides leadership, development of strategies, organizational and financial oversight, and supervises all programs, projects, and administrative activities of NGMA. The Executive Director is responsible for NGMA’s development and growth and advises and regularly updates the Board of Directors regarding membership needs, growth opportunities, and all other areas associated with NGMA’s mission to ensure the goals and objectives are achieved in a timely manner.
NGMA is a remote organization, based out of Sterling, VA. The ED must live within 45 miles of Washington, DC and be able to work full-time from their home and regularly travel to meetings in the MD/VA/DC area. The position requires national travel (up to 20%) as it is expected to be present at NGMA conferences and events, and attends industry conferences, chapter meetings, or other events as deemed appropriate and valuable to NGMA.
The successful candidate will
Be a creative and an innovative leader, with a minimum of 5 years demonstrated executive leadership experience at a national or global nonprofit association. Additionally, grant management experience would be a huge plus.
Possess a demonstrated track record of success and proven management and financial business acumen within an organization of similar or larger scale and complexity.
Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all actions and words, to serve as a role model for all association staff members and constituents.
Be capable of driving international growth.
Present effectively and has the ability to engage various audiences.
Negotiate skillfully to achieve a fair outcome for NGMA and other key stakeholders.
Hold a bachelor’s degree in business or other pertinent degrees.
Acquired a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation, Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) credential, or a master’s degree (This would be considered a plus)
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE?
Provides organizational leadership and ensures alignment with the strategic direction of NGMA.
Liaison to the Board of Directors to identify, implement, and accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
Leads and establishes partnership with the Director of Operations to ensure projects and programs meet organizational goals and objectives.
Provides leadership to ensure the organization supports and advocates membership involvement and input.
Creates and maintains a positive, collaborative culture to support NGMA staff and volunteers and promotes a successful remote working environment.
Oversees a sound, cost-effective, and efficient staff organizational structure.
Partners with the Director of Operations to implement and execute personnel changes, including oversight of hiring, supervision, and performance management activities.
Clearly communicates goals, strategies, feedback, and new ideas for NGMA activities so that the Director of Operations can conduct resource and gap analysis and make recommendations for operationalizing new ideas.
Communicates effectively with NGMA’s Board of Directors, committee chairs, partners, special interest groups, chapters, and stakeholders.
Represents NGMA at community, interagency, social, and professional functions at the local and national level for the purpose of promoting NGMA, its goals and objectives.
Provides leadership to ensure organizational compliance with fiscal policies and procedures.
Assists the Treasurer and Finance Committee in preparation of the annual budget.
Evaluates cost/benefit project information in partnership with the Director of Operations and makes appropriate financial recommendations to the Board.
Relationships and Partnerships
Consults with the Director of Operations on management of vendor and consultant relationships and reviews contracts with all outside agencies to ensure the agreements are in the best interest of NGMA. The Executive Director has contractual signing authority.
Builds and sustains relationships and partnerships with internal and external groups including Board of Directors, CAPP partners, chapter and committee chairs, federal and state government agencies, and other interested parties in grants management.
Provides leadership as NGMA’s representative on grant management advisory groups, committees, boards, and other formal organizations whose purpose is to improve or propose changes to grants management requirements, legislation or procedures.
