ASME is a professional organization focused on the technical, educational and research issues of the engineering and technology community. In pursuit of its mission, ASME supports volunteer groups including technical divisions, professional sections, student sections, technical chapters, affinity communities, etc. in developing and delivering programs and activities, including conferences, professional development programs (US-based and international), locally-relevant content, networking opportunities, and communicating the excitement of engineering through awards and recognition. We are currently seeking a Coordinator, Section Support for our office in Houston, TX.
ASME is revitalizing, with a renewed energy, the Professional and Student Sections by launching a new team, Sections Support. The Coordinator, Section Support is responsible for building relationships with Professional Sections and Student Sections and guiding them through the transformation of the Sector. The coordinator will establish strong communications, build trust, visit volunteers in their local communities and represent organizational expectations. They will be part of a newly formed, dynamic team that will develop systems and manage opportunities for volunteers. The team will be dedicated to group volunteer interactions, processing requests, approving volunteer activity requests and encouraging engagement with the organization. The team will approach the volunteer leadership in a holistic fashion which will require proactively traveling to meet Professional and Student Sections throughout the world. This position will ensure that the mission and vision of ASME is at the forefront as we rebuild the staff-volunteer partnership ASME is known for throughout the world.
Additional Duties will include:
Liaison with Section leadership, professionals and students to gain the support and participation of volunteers in a specified geographic area.
Expand Professional and Student section participation by expanded outreach, relationship building and succession planning.
Coordinate funding and activity approval process for assigned territory.
Coordinate disbursements and volunteer reimbursements for approved group activities.
Travel to, attend conferences and book venues for business meetings and gatherings.
Organize programs and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
Develop new programs to support the strategic direction of the organization.
Implement and manage change initiatives as the new staff/volunteer team is advanced.
Ensure compliance by group volunteers with ASME policies and procedures.
Coordinate committee volunteer positions and identify potential new volunteer leaders in a specified geographic area.
Facilitate local events as needed, forming appropriate linkages of Professional and Student Sections and Society volunteers.
Ideal candidate must have an Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. In addition, candidate must possess the following:
Experience managing multiple projects
Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of MS Office software
Strong understanding of volunteer motivation and processes with an ability to influence volunteer behavior and actions
Association/organizational governance experience a plus
Strong analytical skills
Desire to work outside 9 -5 hours; some evenings and weekends are required as is travel throughout the geographic territory
