AAMI News keeps our members up to date with industry and regulatory news, standards activities, and AAMI benefits. You will have full charge of the reporting, writing, and editing of this newsletter. This is interesting and relevant work – you will have the opportunity to develop expertise in healthcare technology, a growing discipline. We will rely on your ability to write clearly, accurately, and authoritatively about health technology, distilling often complicated subjects into accessible and engaging articles. This is paramount because the editorial content is intrinsically tied to AAMI’s reputation as the go-to resource on this subject.
We consistently develop new products specifically around new standards and stakeholder needs. AAMI members improve medical device safety through the development and use of AAMI standards, professional certification, education, summits, and other technical resources. Industry, healthcare facilities, government agencies, and others rely on AAMI to disseminate high-quality, objective information that helps to make technology used in the care and treatment of patients safer and more effective.
Responsibilities of the Communications Specialist
Serve as editor of the monthly newsletter. Write and edit the majority of copy for AAMI News and coordinate the internal and external review process, ensuring the overall quality of content and timely release of the publication. Solicit ideas/topics of interest for each issue by reaching out to other departments within AAMI and sources outside the organization; develop a running story list. Interview sources and conduct necessary research to determine news of interest to members. Adhere to AAMI’s editorial style and practices.
Interview in person, by phone, and email subject matter experts and leaders in healthcare technology, both in the private and public sectors.
Coordinate all aspects of the newsletter’s layout and design with the services of an outside graphic designer. Obtain photos and develop infographics and charts as needed, as well as suggest illustrations and other visual elements to ensure the newsletter looks as fresh and attractive as possible.
Work with an outside printer to ensure that quality control measures are enforced, that deadlines are met, and that the publication is mailed in a timely fashion.
Coordinate schedules and placement for house ads and paid ads. Assist ad team by providing clear and crisp story lineups, metrics, and tips that the ad professionals may use in promos.
Resolve member and subscriber concerns and questions.
Write online news articles for our website.
Write and distribute press releases.
Report and write articles for BI&T (Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology), AAMI’s peer-reviewed journal.
Solicit contributions to the AAMIBlog.
Each year, in consultation with the advertising team and supervisor, develop an editorial calendar.
Regularly assist the Communications and Marketing Department with the copyediting of articles and reports appearing in other AAMI outlets.
Qualifications of the Communications Specialist
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communications, or a related field.
Minimum of five to seven years of related experience, some in medical or scientific publishing, preferred.
Strong reporting, editing, and writing skills, and solid news judgment are a must.
Experience with content for videos and an interest in video shooting and editing is a plus.
Experience with medical, scientific, or technical content and publishing preferred.
