Project Management/Program Development, Research and Information
Reporting to the Vice President of Palliative and Advanced Care, this position leads projects related to quality research and provides substantive assistance to related projects as a subject matter expert. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Vice President of Palliative and Advanced Care, the Senior Director of Decision Support, the Senior Director of Regulatory and Quality, and other internal stakeholders to support and augment research and performance measurement activities, inform policy, support members in development and sustainability of new care models, enhance relationships with external stakeholder, and develop products and services to diversify revenue streams for NHPCO.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Quality Research for existing NHPCO/National Quality Forum endorsed quality measure and development of additional quality measures for palliative and hospice care services.
Plan, coordinate and execute assigned research projects.
Supervise vendors, as applicable, to complete research projects within deadlines.
Track project progress periodically and report progress to leadership.
Identify areas of improvements and develop new methodologies to meet milestones.
Present research findings to key stakeholders in an understandable manner.
Work with cross-functional teams in preparation of project budget and schedule.
Monitor and control expenses within allotted budget.
Ensure research projects meet applicable state and federal regulations.
Interact with accounting and development departments in processing payments and approving grants.
Stay abreast with latest developments in research tools and techniques.
Analyze and resolve research issues promptly and accurately.
Perform cost negotiation and schedule management activities with vendors.
Coordinate with leadership and key stakeholders in determining research priorities and developing research roadmap.
Identify key challenges and develop appropriate solutions.
Ensure that research deliverables meet quality standards and business requirements.
Project management for NHPCO performance measure initiatives, and other projects as assigned. Responsibilities include submitting project deliverables, preparing status reports, and establishing effective project communication plans as well as the proper execution of said plans. Provide guidance and assistance with other projects as needed.
Coordinate with cross-discipline team members to make sure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules.
Submit project deliverables and ensure that they adhere to quality standards.
Prepare status reports by gathering, analyzing and summarizing relevant information.
Establish effective project communication plans and ensure their execution.
Facilitate change requests to ensure that all parties are informed of the impacts on schedule and budget.
Coordinate the development of user manuals, training materials and other documents as needed to enable successful implementation and turnover of the process or system.
Identify and develop new opportunities with members and/or other stakeholders.
Obtain stakeholder acceptance of project deliverables.
Manage stakeholder satisfaction within project transition period.
Conduct post-project evaluation and identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Collaboration and relationship management with internal and external stakeholders to support existing and new projects.
Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Organize projects and activities in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
Develop new projects to support the strategic direction of the organization.
Create and manage long-term goals.
Develop budgets and operating plans for projects.
Develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
Write program funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
Facilitate a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
Ensure goals are met in areas including stakeholder satisfaction, safety, quality and team member performance.
Implement and manage changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved.
Meet with stakeholders to make communication easy and transparent regarding project issues and decisions on services.
Produce accurate and timely reporting of project status throughout its life cycle.
Analyze project risks.
Work with the marketing team to develop and communicate a marketing strategy for quality research projects and performance measure initiatives.
Identify need for and create communication, including notices for web pages, for dissemination to members related to programs and project initiatives.
Produce written, tabular, and visual materials for reports and presentations.
Contribute to preparation of presentations, manuscripts, and other means utilized to disseminate research findings and project information.
Present internally and externally for a variety of audiences to relay key information, influence key stakeholders, and advocate for seriously ill individuals and their families.

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics, or other related field with graduate level class work in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics and/or related fields; or a bachelor’s degree and equivalent significant coursework or professional experience in health care research. Master’s degree preferred. Clinical background is a plus but not required. Three to five years of project management experience is required. Project Management certification is a plus but not required. Other requirements include: knowledge of the principles of data collection, analysis, and reporting; knowledge of the principles of primary research design and execution including analytic approaches, protocols, and appropriate use of results; knowledge of the principles of measurement and/or measurement instrument development; and familiarity with large databases in public health, healthcare, and other health related settings including design of health surveillance systems and analysis of health data. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. Experience in survey and analytics software is a plus, e.g. Qualtrics, Tableau.
