The National Parking Association seeks a forward thinking, media-savvy leader to develop and manage external and internal strategic communications, marketing and promotion of the association’s strategic projects, research and advocacy activities and to be responsible to enhance and sustain the global image, identity, brand and reputation of NPA. Further, to prepare and disseminate the precise information to the appropriate channels and outlets, internally as well as externally to NPA. To coordinate and supervise its PR agency, research consultants and other key partners.
External Affairs Leadership: In this role you will advance NPA’s brand, policy messages and reputation management initiatives to aid the association in achieving its branding, marketing and communication goals.
Increase visibility and build relationship with stakeholders including the media, investors, civil society organizations, and researchers.
Participate in the formulation/development of the NPA strategy for communications and external relations.
Encourage employee engagement and support change management and develop culture of openness and transparency within NPA.
Advance communications in support of policy platform and development of strategic alliances within and outside the industry.
Develops and strategically communicates, promotes and markets the association’s thought leadership and advocacy positions.
Manages agencies, consultants and research firms to produce and promote thought leadership.
Promotes the positive image of the association and establishes partnerships with leading media organizations.
Identifies and partners with global influencers to serve as ambassadors for the association in reaching out to external stakeholders.
Liaises with the media to disseminate information concerning the association.
Manages strategic board projects and consulting firms, PR agency and other consultant in fulfillment of association’s mission.
Analyzes and prepares appropriate response on stories and other activities that could pose a reputational risk to the image of the industry.
Advises the management team and client-centric staff on media management, public speeches and other external stakeholder engagements.
Develops and maintains an online presence for the association, including contributions to the association’s research website, advocacy center and social media presence.
Prepares and executes the crisis communication strategy for the association.
Organizational & Board Communications
Develops and executes an effective social and multimedia strategy across channels.
Develops Board reports, communications and materials in support of the strategic plan and its initiatives.
Acts as a role-model to communicate to the association’s values and leadership competencies; provide direction and support in times of change.
Coordinates the provision of advisory services and technical guidance in matters related to communications and external relations to association’s organizational units.
Drafts and disseminates speeches for association management.
Communicates the vision, mission and strategy of the association to all staff and ensures that all employees within the organization are informed
Supports management and other organizational units in creating awareness about programs, projects and other issues relevant to staff
Contributes to the development and dissemination of the knowledge base of communication best practices
Ensures the dissemination of relevant information, promotions and campaigns
Publishes promotional materials in support of communications.
Expertise required for this role includes:
3-5+ years’ experience in communications/external affairs or advocacy.
Demonstrated ability to develop strategic communications plans, advocacy support materials and external relations programs.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present data and conclusion in an organized, concise manner.
Demonstrated project management skills & ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple constituencies, working effectively toward deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Experience with Meltwater news, MS Office™ proficiency, as well as experience with Association Management and Event Management software (or similar).
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff, based both locally and remotely.
Ability to travel a few times per year for association events.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications preferred.
Association experience preferred.
This position reports to the President and will be based in Washington, D.C. This is a NEW position within a rapidly growing organization.
