Location: AIGA’s National Headquarters are located in New York City, however, 100% telecommuting (remote) from a U.S. location is possible with the requirement to be in the New York office once per month for team workshops and meetings.
Overview: AIGA, the largest and most influential design association in the United States, seeks a dynamic and accomplished senior director to lead its corporate engagement efforts to nurture long term collaborative relationships with key companies and organizations and achieve annual revenue goals.
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the senior executive team, the Director of Corporate Partnerships is charged with creating and executing a comprehensive and integrated strategy to expand AIGA’s corporate partnership and sponsorship portfolio that yield net revenue. The director is accountable for relationships with corporate leaders who provide financial (and in some cases, non-financial) support to help AIGA meet its strategic objectives and deliver valuable programs and benefits to its members.
The Director collaborates with the Corporate Relations Board Committee in developing annual goals and performance metrics. The Director coordinates the participation of Board members and other volunteers in partnership planning meetings and taps the industry contacts and committee members in activating AIGA’s partnership strategy and goals.
CO-CREATION OF MEMBER SERVICES WITH PARTNERS
Organizes co-creation work sessions with current and potential partners to design and deploy member focused services that have sustainable revenue streams, and whenever possible build on existing assets of AIGA and the chosen partner
Assures that AIGA has a sponsorship model based on recommendations of IEG
Proactively develop sponsorship opportunities and create partnerships that align with AIGA’s mission and vision and contribute to elevating its brand and visibility
Identify new corporate prospects, build existing pipeline of prospects, nurture relationships, and advance prospect development through to the cultivation and closing of sponsorship agreements
Actively manage relationships with sponsors to ensure optimal engagement, oversee projects and deliverable-tracking to ensure that sponsorship agreements are being met; make recommendations for enhanced visibility where appropriate
Work with internal teams to build a marketing timeline to share with sponsors that outlines guidelines and delivery deadlines for assets (for e-newsletters, emails, web pages, booklets, signage, etc.). Follow up when/where necessary to ensure fulfillment
AIGA DESIGN CONFERENCE AND AWARDS PRESENTATION
Increase sponsor involvement in the annual AIGA Design Conference working collaboratively with the meetings team to ensure that agreements can be fulfilled and that sponsor brands are activated and well-represented
Meet revenue targets for conference sponsorship
Provide advance and onsite support, as well as post-event follow up for participating conference sponsors
Alongside the Director for Membership, provide sponsorship counsel and training to the senior volunteer leaders who run AIGA’s 74 U.S. chapters
Develop chapter fundraising capability present at AIGA events, ensure resource handbooks are up to date, inform chapters about any revisions to sponsorship model
Oversee all in-kind partnerships that deliver key resources for AIGA operations, programs, and signature events
Spearhead outreach to and manage relationships with companies whose platforms or services demonstrate value to AIGA’s chapters and members in tandem with the Director of Membership
MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, AND ADMINISTRATION
In collaboration with marketing, editorial, and program colleagues, craft comprehensive sponsorship benefits packages that align with AIGA’s brand voice while helping to meet marketing objectives of partners
Ensure tracking of prospects and corporate contributions occurs in a timely manner and make recommendations to improve current systems
Bachelor’s degree required with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated success in corporate partnerships, sponsorship, individual/major gift solicitation, and annual campaign management experience
Minimum of 7–10 years’ management level experience at (preferred) a nonprofit organization, association, in corporate relations or (acceptable) similar experience in the corporate sector in business relations and partnership development
Disciplined self-starter who regularly exceeds goals
Ability to work well in a virtual team environment is essential
Computer literacy required (Microsoft, Apple, Google office products), CRMs (Salesforce) and association management platforms
Ability to travel (3 to 6 trips per year to clients in the US; monthly trips to national office in NYC)
