The Manager of Governance and Component Relations provides AHLA staff and component groups (Practice and Affinity Groups, Task Forces, Councils) with managerial, hands-on support and consultative services related to governance, leadership orientation and leadership, compliance and operations. She/he works closely with the Vice Presidents of Membership to direct and oversee succession planning, volunteer and annual call for leaders, appointment process, and leadership orientation and training. The Manager also assists with recruitment and retention activities.

Develop and oversee high-quality leadership orientation and leadership training program for Association leaders. Create and manage tutorial library, and virtual and on-demand training.
Direct and manage the annual call for leaders and appointment process for the Association; the volunteer platform for leadership communities; and acknowledgement of leader service. Manage succession planning for the Association.
Provide direction to the Association’s component leadership to keep efforts focused on mission-related activities. Share best practices, monitor calls as needed, and, collaborate with staff on governance matters and activities.
Develop materials to support membership recruitment and retention activities.
Organize leadership community libraries and post materials as needed.
Assist with the development, design, and facilitation of training for staff to ensure understanding of their roles and responsibilities as staff liaisons.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Five years of broad-based management experience at an organization with revenues and staff size similar to that of AHLA.
Non-profit association management experience preferred.
CAE designation viewed favorably.
Knowledge of HTML and content management software a plus. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and InCopy desirable.
Experience with developing and facilitating leadership orientation and leadership training program preferred.
Demonstrated ability to write effectively and clearly for various audiences, editing and proofreading skills.
Strong oral communication skills, customer service and teaming/cooperative skills for continual interaction with staff and contact with volunteer leaders and members.
Detail oriented. Demonstrated skills at juggling competing demands and prioritizing assignments.
Independent and effective time management with excellent organizational skills and ability to meet assigned deadlines.
Must be capable of making independent decisions and judgments.
Demonstrated ability to lead project teams as well as participate as a member of multiple teams.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other employees to meet shared goals.
