The membership manager plans, coordinates and leads membership recruitment and retention efforts of ACUI and other managed associations (CSHEMA, NCCI, etc.). The primary function of the job is focused on the outreach and recruitment of new institutional members, along with the engagement and retention of existing members. The manager is charged with using creative efforts, in coordination with ACUI’s integrated marketing strategy, to grow institutional membership and increase organizational revenue. Capitalizing on volunteer and member engagement, positive member experiences, and a strong organizational brand, the membership manager works across the associations to ensure innovative messaging and effective communication of membership benefits.
Each of the responsibilities below apply to ACUI. The responsibilities for other managed associations may vary based on the specific scope of work with the organization.
Establishes strategic and comprehensive membership recruitment and retention plans to support the association’s goal of growth and diversification.
Develops and implements institutional membership sales/marketing efforts, including designated campaigns for recruiting potential members, welcoming new members, and engaging existing member.
Utilizes member data to identify opportunities and trends, target audiences, and potential advocates.
Oversees membership renewal process, including extensive methods to capture increased renewal rate in collaboration with the member services manager.
Conducts and assists with member surveys, measuring engagement, and other assessment activities related to membership.
Educates current members, leadership component groups, and staff about their role in the association’s recruitment and retention activities.
Develops and manages onboarding and engagement messaging for all new members, including welcome video and materials, and orientation resources.
Develops and tracks performance indicators for membership, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve institutional membership goals and budgetary expectations.
Analyzes membership data, prepares reports, and make presentations for ACUI leadership.
Leads departmental marketing planning and implementation for membership, volunteer recruitment, awards nominations, and other member engagement initiatives.
Plans and executes programming to recognize long-term members and engage at-risk members.
Advises and supports the regional membership coordinator volunteers and the Member Recruitment and Retention Team.
Leads the cross-functional membership team for the Central Office.
Develops and monitors budgets, making recommendations as appropriate.
Coordinates additional association services as agreed upon
Proven track record of increasing members and building market share in a sales environment.
Experience writing, executing, and evaluating marketing plans.
Requires ability to communicate verbally in English, both in person and via telephone or online technology, to be proficient in Microsoft Office, and have the ability to learn and use other computer programs.
Ability to be part of a creative and innovative work team.
Knowledge of higher education market and/or of non-individual-based membership structures preferred.
Experience in a small office/small association and with CRM/AMS systems is preferred.
Some travel may be required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Three to five years’ experience in related fields (e.g., association management, membership recruitment, sales/marketing).
