The American Association for Justice (AAJ®), formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA®), is seeking to fill a Regional Membership Manager position in the Membership Department.
AAJ is the only national plaintiff lawyer association and seeks to promote a fair and effective civil justice system—and to support the work of attorneys and Trial Lawyer Associations (TLAs) in their efforts to ensure that any person who is injured by the misconduct or negligence of others can obtain justice in America’s courtrooms, even when taking on the most powerful interests.
This position will work with attorneys and Trial Lawyer Associations in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Preferred location is in the California Bay Area or Southern California.
AAJ is looking for a Membership Manager to: • Plan and execute an acquisition program to acquire members. This will include organizing membership drives, working with local members to identify prospective new members, collaborating with the state and local trial lawyer associations (TLAs) on membership, appointment scheduling, and following up with prospects. • Plan and execute a retention program to retain members in the region including working closely with AAJ headquarters to increase AAJ’s overall retention rate. • Provide weekly reports on all field activities to the Deputy Director of Membership. • Successfully complete assignments within a defined budget. • Build an AAJ prospect database in the region, working with AAJ headquarters to maintain the Association database, tracking all leads, and submitting timely and accurate weekly and monthly reports. • Act as a regional liaison between AAJ and local members. • Assist State Trial Lawyer Associations in the Southeast with membership recruitment, helping to grow membership in their organizations, and finding synergies between their membership and AAJ’s where possible. • Assist State Trial Lawyer Associations with other projects as needed, including support for annual conventions, special events, and other projects.
Position requirements: • JD degree preferred, BA degree required. • Experience selling person-to-person is strongly preferred. • Association experience is strongly preferred. • Exceptional communication and public relations abilities, both written and verbal. • Strong working knowledge of databases – advanced general computer skills: Membership database (Netforum), Microsoft Word, PowerPoint presentations, Excel, and Outlook. • Must demonstrate accuracy and seek to improve/promote quality in the organization while exhibiting objectivity and openness to others’ views. • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively from a remote location. • Ability to work well under pressure, determine priorities, manage budgets, and produce results. • Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and time management skills. • Strategic thinker and visionary leader with a passionate and optimistic mentality. • Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, including some evenings and weekends. • Interest in social justice, politics, and protecting consumers is essential.
