Job Summary: The powersports associations’ Government Relations Office, based in Arlington, VA, is seeking an Associate General Counsel to work with the associations’ general counsel on legal matters affecting the associations. In addition, the Associate General Counsel will be actively involved in the associations’ legislative and regulatory affairs programs.
Reports To: Executive Vice President/General Counsel
Providing legal counsel to the associations, including litigation, transactions, and governance.
Advocating industry positions to legislators and regulators, including developing position papers and draft legislation and preparing and delivering comments/testimony on relevant issues.
Working with member companies and staff to identify public policy priorities and developing and implementing strategies to advance the associations’ legislative, regulatory and political agendas.
Engaging with related stakeholder groups and coalitions in support of association priorities, including representing the associations in a variety of forums.
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school.
Current bar admission, preferably Virginia and D.C.
At least 4 years as a practicing attorney in a law firm, Congressional office, government agency, trade association, and/or corporation.
At least 3 years Capitol Hill experience as Congressional staff and/or lobbyist.
Thorough understanding of and experience with federal legislative and regulatory processes.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to plan and carry out multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines.
Knowledge of the powersports industry a plus.
