NCARB is a nonprofit organization and global leader in architectural regulation. Located in Washington, D.C., our mission is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare by leading the regulation of the practice of architecture through the development and application of standards for licensure and credentialing of architects.
Our members are the architectural licensing boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While each jurisdiction is responsible for regulating the practice of architecture within its borders, NCARB develops and administers national programs for licensure candidates and architects to ensure they have the mobility to go wherever their career takes them.
NCARB’s Examination Directorate is searching for a collaborative, positive, and creative Assistant Director, Examination to help lead the team in developing and delivering the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) as well as supporting candidates and NCARB’s Member Boards.
The Examination team manages the day-to-day development and delivery of the ARE as well as works across the Council on several initiatives. Our small but mighty team works with hundreds of subject matter experts on the creation and maintenance of the ARE. We oversee ongoing improvements to the examination, and we support Council outreach efforts to inform licensure candidates and architects on all NCARB programs and services.

You will work strategically to assess efficiencies, guide program messaging, and oversee research activities.
You will oversee exam candidate support including published guidelines, community forums, and blogs.
You will be an active part of Council outreach efforts to architectural universities, community colleges, high-schools, AIA chapters, and architectural firms.
An open positive attitude that enjoys working as part of a team.
A Bachelor’s Degree; or, a combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute. An accredited professional degree in architecture (B.Arch., M.Arch. D.Arch) preferred.
