The QA and Support Developer serves the team by developing, debugging, and supporting website and app software. The position receives and resolves customer service requests from APA staff and APA members; updates documentation as new software is released, or tickets are resolved; and uses documentation to develop automated tests that catch future bugs early. The position also provides reports and analysis to the software development team with an eye on improving services.
Duties and responsibilities
Primary administrator for all incoming support tickets from APA members and APA staff
Act as primary technical liaison between APA’s member services department and software development team
Resolve customer service requests and explain unexpected software behavior to APA staff and members
Support the software development team in developing automated tests
Write code to build applications for the planning.org website and other digital products
Follow best engineering practices, including:
o Ensuring that code adheres to defined coding standards
o Writing friendly, valid, well-commented code
o Using source control to maintain and track code
Develop and revise code to guarantee the product meets test requirements as defined by Quality Assurance
Optimize web application performance and scalability
Work with the Database Administrator to troubleshoot and correct data inconsistencies
Learn from member requests and make recommendations to the software development team based on member feedback
Provide usability analysis reports and recommendations based on member feedback
Qualifications (Education and Experience)
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and 2+ years professional experience required
Strong oral and written communication skills with a customer service orientation necessary
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously needed
Ability to communicate technical solutions/issues to both technical and non-technical people required
Very strong trouble-shooting and insight abilities required
Software application development experience required; experience with Django web framework strongly preferred
Solid understanding of web standards and best engineering practices required
Ability to comprehend complex processes
Experience with Agile methodology preferred
