POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Education Specialist is responsible for working with the Education Committee to assess member needs; create and manage innovative and relevant education programs with a primary focus on web and mobile technology; and successfully market the programs to create value to members and/or increase or create sources of revenue. The Education Specialist also staffs the Public Policy Committee managing the development of position statements and assisting with Hill visits.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as staff liaison to the Education Committee including scheduling conference calls, creating agendas, preparing materials and taking minutes, and coordinating volunteers for education projects.
Assist the Education Committee in creating cutting edge maintenance of certification (MOC) and continuing medical education (CME) products to offer physiatrists.
Prepare materials, updates, and reports for AAP Board meetings regarding the status of AAP’s Education Strategic plan as necessary.
Develop budget and research and implement appropriate pricing structures for each product. Maintain key financial records and history for product sales. Monitor financial statements to ensure accuracy of Education Department revenue and expenses; provide registration and financial reports for the Education Committee.
Manage an efficient and effective processes for developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs.
Prepare reports and recommendations based on evaluation results for all educational activities including the annual meeting.
Manage the learning management system (LMS) and MOC and CME certification process for all activities including the annual meeting.
Work with the Education Committee to implement strategies to increase the number of individuals entering physiatry residency and fellowship programs.
Assist in ensuring educational products offering MOC and CME are fully compliant with ACCME.
Serve as staff liaison to the Public Policy Committee including scheduling conference calls, creating agendas, preparing materials and taking minutes, and coordinating volunteers for public policy projects.
Work with the AAP lobbyists to prepare for Hill visits including the creation of talking points, folders, and visits.
Select items and manage the design and timely shipment of all promotional items including AAP annual meeting materials, booth giveaways, and others as needed throughout the year.

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
3-5 years experience within education, project management, or events and marketing industry
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask, and work independently and efficiently under deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet-based research, and web-based technology platforms
Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and works well under pressure
Experience and demonstrated success in project management
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team to develop engaging and creative ways to advance AAP’s educational offerings
Experience working with volunteer leaders and members required

The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) is a professional medical society of physiatrists who are dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the field of physiatry through research, education and advocacy. AAP currently serves over 1,600 members including physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) department chairs, program directors, residents and fellows, researchers, medical student educators, administrative directors, program coordinators, and others involved or interested in academic physiatry. The AAP has an official journal, the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, holds an Annual Meeting, and leads a number of projects, programs, and activities to support and enhance academic physiatry.
