The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is searching for an Accounting Manager who will be responsible for managing all areas of the accounting function to include developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, as well as ensuring the work is properly allocated and completed timely and accurately.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintains thorough understanding of the financial reporting and accounting operations.
Ensures accounting transactions are recorded in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, SfN's policies and regulatory requirements.
Develops/institutes/maintains/coordinates monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule to ensure timely close in order to produce financial statements for final review/approval by the Senior Accounting & Compliance Manager.
Designs and implements internal control procedures within all accounting processes to ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting transactions.
Ensures timely and accurate recording of all cash and investment activities.
Manages accounting for 1121 Properties, LLC, including reporting requirements and annual property valuation process.
Monitors and analyzes accounting operations to develop and propose more efficient process and use of resources while maintaining effective internal control environment.
Coordinates and supports all audit activities (i.e. A-133, annual audit, retirement plan audit), including implementation of action plans to address audit findings.
Supports the Senior Accounting & Compliance Manager in the completion of all government, regulatory, and compliance filings for all SfN business operations.
Ensures compliance with federal funding requirements, including OMB circulars A-110, A-122 and A-133, and participate in grant review and planning.
Supervise the daily activities of accounting team members to ensure that quality of work performed meets SfN expectations while meeting deadlines
Delegates effectively, communicates expectations clearly, and provides professional development opportunities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required. Preferably in accounting, business administration or a related field.
A minimum of 8 years of professional accounting experience required.
3 year of supervisory or team lead experience required.
Experience in an association or nonprofit preferred
MBA or CPA preferred.
Knowledge of finance, accounting (GAAP), cash management, budgeting and cost control principle.
Ability to apply logic, reasoning, analysis, and interpretation to resolve routine and non-routine problems.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meeting deadlines required.
Must be highly motivated and willing to challenge the status quo in pursuit of innovation process improvements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
