The American Chemical Society’s Division of Membership & Society Services leads ACS’ enterprise-wide conversation about membership value and how it relates to each of our programs, products, and services. The Division is dedicated to creating delightful, relevant experiences for ACS’ more than 156,000 members worldwide in all of our venues – globally, locally, online, and in person. The Marketing & Sales department achieves this goal by delivering best-in-class marketing strategy and services to clients within and beyond the Membership Division. The department supports ACS’ goals through the expertise of a marketing services team focused on distribution channels and account teams that are deployed and embedded across key Society functions. Success for this unit is measured by long-term growth of ACS’ membership, marketing performance metrics, and the satisfaction levels of internal customer groups among other metrics.
ACS Marketing & Sales is seeking a Marketing Events Operations Manager to work within the Marketing and Sales team. The incumbent will work closely with the Global Events Marketing Manager to deliver on event strategies that align to organizational and marketing goals through the execution of tradeshows, events, conferences, and various other event-marketing programs. (40+ events annually). Responsibilities also include managing of onsite event presence, managing the ACS Store program and fulfillment support for sponsorship activities.
Responsibilities for this position include: • Manage participation and deliverables for events & trade shows, including booking booth and meeting space, registering personnel, coordinating lodging, transportation, shipments of exhibition assets to/from events, and other event related services • Managing the ACS Store program including evaluating/recommending suppliers, negotiating merchandise ordering, tracking inventory, and administering store and onsite operations at events • Working with internal and external vendors, e.g. exhibit house, printers, designers, etc., to ensure timely, cost-effective execution • Facilitating the creation and routing of event signage, promotional materials, show guide, and event promotional materials • Maintaining event schedules, project checklists, internal calendars • Developing staffing and pre-event schedules as well as briefing materials • Collecting event feedback and gathering information for post-event analysis and reporting • Tracking expenses and assist in complete financial reconciliation.
Leads the Society’s efforts to recognize the contributions of ACS volunteers and members.
Works with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance existing recognition programs such as ACS Ambassadors and Heroes of Chemistry.
Works with other colleagues in the Member Programs and Communities team, develops new and novel ways to recognize individual members and the role of chemists worldwide with a particular focus on industrial members and international members
Leads these new recognition programs forward from inception to sustainability.
Promotes all recognition award winners through press releases, communications, website updates, cross-promotional opportunities, in coordination, where necessary, with External Affairs & Communications staff.
Interacts extensively with ACS governance leaders and members and possesses a polished persona when engaging with the various stakeholders.
Monitors and reviews effectiveness of current and new programs and makes recommendations on streamlining or concluding these efforts.
Manages program budgets for established programs and works to create budgets for new programs and ideas.
Possibly serves as a staff liaison to one or more ACS governance Committees.
Travel flexibility on the order of 10% with attendance likely needed at a couple of key meetings and events during the year.
Knowledge or experience with the chemistry enterprise required. Familiarity with recognition and award programs and knowledge of the recognition landscape in other non-profits highly desired. Excellent communication skills in both written and oral formats essential. Innovative thinker and a self-starter with poise when dealing with stakeholders preferred. Ability to work effectively with staff across the organization as well as governance leaders and other volunteers.
