The Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau is charged with enhancing Louisville's economy through tourism to position and sell our community worldwide, in partnership with the public and private sector, as a premier destination for conventions, trade shows, corporate meetings, group tours and individual leisure travel.
The primary responsibility of the Senior Sales Manager, Convention Development is to promote and sell Louisville as a destination for conventions and tradeshows by soliciting assigned accounts in designated market. The incumbent is responsible for achieving individual sales goals annually (consisting of room nights booked, number of bookings) and favorably contributing to the overall sales team effort.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Bureau sales staff in cooperative efforts to generate potential business.
Make formal written or verbal invitations to associations in session.
Work with local community contacts recommended by national organizations in order to create a relationship that will enhance the bidding process for a national meeting.
Participate as a member of association groups in which the executive staff would attend in order to develop a good business relationship.
On an ongoing basis, review all hotels and conventions facilities and personnel at these facilities to assure a better understanding of their capabilities and to develop team spirit within the city and county.
Keep records of all sales calls for future follow-up.
Keep financial records of all expenditures for sales calls or promotions as outlined by financial guidelines.
Any other duties as directed by the SVP of Convention Development, Executive Vice President and/or President and CEO of the Bureau.
Meet goals for hotel room nights booked quarterly, as well as booking goals as established by the Senior VP of Convention Development and Executive Vice President.
Function as an official representative of the Bureau and act as a liaison between the Bureau, hotels, halls, and the potential client.
Coordinate and direct special events such as sales blitzes, convention bid promotion, trade shows, FAM tours, etc.
Handle designated markets (subject to change).
Proven record of sales ability, creative sales initiative, and lead generation.
Experience in managing sales production and special projects simultaneously in a fast-pace environment.
Ability to effectively communicate in a friendly, positive manager internally as well as externally.
Ability to develop compelling sales proposals
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Computer proficiency with Microsoft products
Identify and develop key convention accounts
Attention to detail and appropriate and timely follow through on assignments
Understanding of sales methods, procedures, and techniques
Individual must collaborate well with hotel partners, clients, and exhibit facilities.
