PURPOSE: Produce a profitable annual convention & exposition with guidance from the convention committee. Oversee the planning of the NRLA Annual Meeting and Spring Leadership Conference.
PRIMARY DUTIES: 1.Determine strategy for the Expo with direction from Executive and Convention Committees 2.Create strategy to grow attendance for the Expo and increase value for exhibitors 3.Direct the planning for NRLA’s 125th Anniversary (one-time event planned in 2018 for 2019) 4.Negotiate all contracts pertaining to Expo 5.Collaborate with education director on platform offered at Expo 6.Collaborate with communications department on strategy for Expo 7.Research cancellation insurance options and bind on an annual basis 8.Contribute editorial content to Lumber Co-operator and monthly electronic communications 9.Regularly provided reports to NRLA Executive Committee and Board of Directors 10.Develop and adhere to $1.5 M departmental budget 11.Lead Convention Committee meetings (March, June, & September) 12.Produce editorial content for the exhibitor prospectus content, including pricing of exhibit space, floor plan 13.Produce editorial content for attendee promotional material 14.Produce editorial content for the Locator (show guide) 15.Create pre- and post-convention assignments and onsite convention assignments 16.Attend industry trade shows for benchmarking 17.Act as primary contact for general service contractor and third-party registration vendor 18.Design registration process 19.Reconcile all invoices post-Expo to ensure solid financial results 20.Monitor registration levels 21.Lead monthly staff meetings on rotation 22.Provide “Manager on Duty” coverage during summer hours 23.Open and manage all hotel room blocks including housing requirements for staff and VIPs 24.Participate as a member of the senior management team 25.Support the growth of associate membership by partnering with associate membership director when selling booths.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of five years experience in successful trade show management. Customer excellence imperative. Solid understanding of budget development and management required. Proven ability to collaborate with various personalities and work with volunteers. Prior supervisory experience a must. Prior trade association experience preferred. CMP preferred. Travel throughout the membership region required.
