The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), founded in 1908, is a professional association of more than 50,000 chemical engineers worldwide. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life.
Working closely with the Director of Communications, AIChE’s Web Content & Communications Associate is responsible for writing and day-to-day management of online content for AIChE’s family of websites and social channels. This is an opportunity to experience working with a dynamic organization across a variety of web-based platforms.
Work closely with communications director, staff, and members to write and produce engaging web content in accordance with organizational goals for AIChE.org and its family of websites.
Content includes (but is not limited to): general updates, site navigational changes, and blog/story writing using AIChE’s Drupal content management system.
Suggest and develop innovative content-marketing ideas to integrate websites, community platform (Higher Logic), and social channels in accordance with content calendar.
Manage AIChE social channels (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube); develop and execute plan to increase followers/likes, engagement.
Assist in monitoring and moderating online discussion communities.
Work closely with volunteers to develop stories, recruit potential authors, and train them on web platforms.
Assist at major conferences with communications efforts, including social media, filming, and photography; manage AIChE’s photo archives online.
Measure and report on web and social analytics.
Participate in meetings with clients, design vendors, developers and all relevant parties when appropriate.
B.A. required; 3-5 years experience in media, publishing, social media, and/or web content creation. Non-profit experience a plus.
Proven ability to write, develop, and produce quality written and visual content on a regular schedule for websites and social media.
Outstanding writing skills required. Proven ability to establish a “voice.”
Experience using web content management systems (Drupal experience a plus).
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, web production, photo editing; experience with online tools such as Formstack, Wufoo, Box.com; social media management tools such Hootsuite, Coschedule; and content design tools such as Canva.
Competency with Google Analytics.
Basic photography and videography skills (DSLR, mobile phones, and video cameras).
Must be a quick study, have outstanding people skills, and be enthusiastic about understanding a matrixed organization and its communication needs.
Superior project management and time management skills with strong attention to detail; a creative problem solver who’s able to juggle multiple projects while maintaining cool.
Must be comfortable presenting at in-person meetings or on teleconferences.
Strong MS Office skills: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
