The President/CEO works in partnership with the Board of Directors and senior staff to provide leadership, vision, and direction for IFAI. The President/CEO also manages the day-to-day operations of the association under policies determined by the Board. The primary responsibilities are:
Strategic Leadership and Communication: Lead the development of, and implement, the strategic plan of IFAI, including subsequent annual business plans, clearly articulating organizational goals for financial and programmatic stability and growth of new revenue streams; motivate and inspire others to support the organization’s vision; enthusiastically model the values of IFAI.
Operational Planning and Management: Generate revenue for the association; recruit, retain, and ensure fulfillment of members; work with the Board to draft, monitor, and update policies and procedures; fulfill those policies in word and spirit; monitor the planning, implementation, and evaluation of member programs.
Financial Planning and Management: Oversee the development and management of the annual budget, including long-range financial forecasts; ensure proper administration of funds management procedures; keep the board informed of financial and operational issues.
Human Resources Planning and Management: Support, develop, and retain a qualified and excellent staff: support the senior management team and ensure that the internal functions are fulfilled; ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the organization by selecting and developing effective people; foster a culture of cooperation and mutual respect, focusing on outstanding performance.
Relationship Management: Maintain strong and effective internal relationships with the Board and staff; build and maintain strong external relationships with members, government leaders, partner and allied organizations, and affiliate associations.
A Bachelor’s degree is in a related field, such as business administration or public administration, is required. An MBA and/or Certified Association Executive designation is desired.
Demonstrated success in organizational leadership, with proven competence in guiding the development and implementation of a strategic plan, and successful institutional positioning developed over a minimum of ten years of professional experience.
Experience working at the national or international level.
Knowledge of current service trends and emerging models for professional associations (strongly preferred).
Proven administrative competence in areas such as financial management and budgeting, including profit and loss responsibility.
Experience building, managing, and strengthening teams. Able to develop and lead a high performing team.
Experience and skill working with a Board of Directors made up of member professionals.
A track record of entrepreneurship or innovative development of new products and services.
The ability and commitment to envision and describe the long-term future of the organization in a way that inspires and motivates members and other key stakeholders.
The ability and commitment to be an engaging ambassador and advocate for IFAI and IFF with key business, industry, and government leaders. This includes the ability to skillfully manage the needs of competing stakeholders.
