The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) is a professional society of osteopathic family physicians (DOs). Fully trained and licensed in all 50 states, osteopathic physicians (DOs) differ from “allopathic (MD) physicians” in their ability to use osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) for diagnoses and treatment, in their philosophical belief that the body structure and func...tion are interrelated, and in their appreciation of the body’s ability to heal itself. ACOFP represents more than 22,000 osteopathic family physicians and physicians-in-training throughout the United States. Osteopathic family physicians are the largest osteopathic specialty among the American Osteopathic Association’s affiliated organizations.
