The Executive Director reports to the Chairman and Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Foundation strategic and program guidance matters; and to the Chief Executive Officer of the CFA for operational, resource and personnel matters.
The Executive Director serves on the CFA senior team and is the primary staff advocate for the Foundation and as such, has responsibility for the Foundation’s efficient and successful operations. Administrative support is provided on a shared basis by the CFA, which is located in New York City.
This is a part-time position requiring approximately 20 hours per week. The hours are flexible as is the location - Washington D.C. or New York City are preferred.
Roles and Responsibilities
Translates the mission and vision of the Foundation into actionable programs and activities benefiting the secured lending industry and its various stakeholders.
Responsible for the development and effective oversight of an annual strategic plan and budget.
Responsible for the management of the Foundation’s daily operations and activities, including supervision of shared resources available through the CFA, as a member of the CFA senior management team.
Establishes work standards and expectations, and develops adequate systems and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of the organization.
This position is responsible for organizing and directing the work of a development team comprised of volunteers to raise the financial resources necessary to sustain a successful Foundation. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintaining relationships with current donors and building relationships with potential donors.
Planning, directing and conducting various fundraising activities for annual support, memorial gifts, special projects, endowment, capital fund drives and other donor programs such as deferred giving bequests, etc.
Developing and delivering presentations that highlight the activities of the Foundation to potential donors and the public where appropriate.
Developing and managing an on-going, active marketing and communications program to increase the visibility and to gain support for the Foundation and its research activities by potential donors.
Program Development and Execution:
This position will work closely with the CFA Education Director and Education Committee to support programs that meet the professional development goals of the Association.
In addition, this position is responsible for establishing, organizing and directing the work of the Foundation Research Committee (FRC), to be comprised of volunteers charged with increasing the body of knowledge in our industry. This is done by identifying future-oriented research about the secured lending industry for the benefit of the industry and its constituents. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Gaining an understanding of the secured lending industry in order to contribute to the development of research projects.
Working with the FRC, CFA members and staff to identify study topics worthy of funding and subject matter experts capable of conducting the study.
Tracking funding and guiding the research steering committees and assisting the FRC committee chairman with meeting and project management
Managing the grant process from RFP through delivery
Developing relationships with members of the academic community who could serve on the Board of Trustees and assist in developing worthwhile research projects.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
At least five years in association, foundation, development or a related field, with both supervisory and strategic management experience.
Experience managing grant programs
A track record of proven success with fundraising activities.
Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills.
Ability to travel on a limited basis
