Summary: This is a unique Senior Manager-level position that manages the Comprehensive Faculty Development Program, the Faculty Mentoring and Coaching Program, and the portfolio of faculty development products and resources. These programs and their activities will build on the previous pioneering work of the Division in this field. New standards and benchmarks in faculty development will be defined and disseminated. The Comprehensive Faculty Development Program will impact all education and training programs of the Division of Education and help with the career advancement of the surgery faculty, both nationally and locally. This Faculty Development Program will be anchored to the 4-Level Model previously described – Master Educator, Educator, Master Teacher, and Teacher. Specific programs, products, and resources will be created for each of these Faculty Levels.
This Exempt level position will report to the Director in the Division of Education.
• The incumbent will be responsible for the cutting-edge and multi-dimensional Faculty Development Program that will be created under the aegis of the Division of Education and led by the Director of the Division of Education. The incumbent will work very closely with the Division Director to conduct robust gap analyses and identify specific needs that will then be addressed through the spectrum of programs, products, and resources of this program.
• The incumbent will provide Senior Manager-level support for a new and innovative Mentoring, Coaching, and Advising Program in Education for Surgery Faculty that will be housed within the Division of Education, and its reach will extend both nationally and internationally.
• The incumbent will provide oversight for the Surgical Education Principles and Practice Course as well as for a spectrum of existing and new programs, products, and resources in various formats that will address specific needs of faculty at the 4 Levels.
• The incumbent will also provide oversight for the new Faculty Development Committee that will be appointed under the aegis of the Division of Education. The incumbent will assume overall responsibility for the activities of this Committee as well as other committees, task forces, and workgroups that will be appointed to design, develop, and launch various programs, products, and resources.
• The incumbent will supervise the activities of the Administrator and other staff members who will be responsible for providing administrative support for these programs.
• The incumbent will work very closely with the Director of the Division of Education to pursue scholarly work to advance the field of simulation-based surgical education and training and to evaluate the impact of various programs through well-designed research and development studies.

Required Education and/or Experience:
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical or Health Sciences Education required. Doctoral degree preferred.
• Courses in educational research, organizational management, e-learning, budget planning, and the design and management of large databases are highly desirable.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working in a similar or related role required.
• Substantial experience with education program development, program management, learner assessment, and program evaluation is required.
• Substantial experience in medical or health sciences education, familiarity with faculty development and support, basic knowledge of standards, and experience with literature and online searches for scholarly articles and other resources are highly desirable.
• Some experience with scholarship and research in the field of medical or health sciences education would be highly desirable.
• Proven expertise in development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs and products is essential.
• Must be able to work with surgeons and other health care professionals to develop educational programs and must be familiar with advances in the field of education.
• Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to effectively interact with all levels of organization.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Display high level of energy and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to plan and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Ability to establish strong working relationships with all division teams and management.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is required to make specific work assignments to others and complete a formal annual evaluation of the work performed by others.
Fiscal Management: This position is required to develop and manage the annual budget, program or project budget within the department.
Physical/Work Environment: Fast paced with significant people interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stooping. Performs work in a normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer.
Other Necessary Requirements: Evening or weekend duties may be required. Moderate travel (quarterly) for activities such as out of town meetings is required.
